“I can do this all day.” -Steve Rogers
The movie follows a young man named Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) who wants to serve his country in WWII despite his many health issues. Given a chance to be more than what he is, he is put through an experiment by the government and become the star-spangled man himself, Captain America. This film was the one Marvel film that actually surprised me when I watched it for the first time. I thought it would be boring, but through the plot, visualizations, and convincing settings, Captain America: The First Avenger became my favorite MCU film of all time. Chris Evans does an amazing job at portraying Steve Rogers. Through his personality and his selfless heart at Steve Rogers, audiences are shown that it takes more than power to be amazing, it takes courage and heart. The film also does an amazing job at making the audience believe it is actually the 1940s through the different locations the film takes us to, and how the characters interact with them. There’s one scene in particular where they go to a festival at the beginning of the film, and the whole place has the 1940s screaming with it through the lights, concepts on the future having “flying cars”, and even people calling their loved ones “dolls”. Small nods to these things make the film feel like this movie could have actually happened. (Minus the Super Solider Serum, or Cosmic Cubes) Overall, Captain America: First Avenger is one Marvel film you shouldn’t skip out on, and even after 7 years since I have seen the movie, I always watch it every 4th of July because its on TV, and it never gets old seeing this story of a guy who wants to make a difference in the world.
