“Second chances don’t come around all that often. I suggest you take a really close look at it. This is your chance to earn that look in your daughter’s eyes, to become the hero that she already thinks you are.” -Hank Pym
With troubles of Edgar Wright leaving the film after being involved with it over a decade, Peyton Reed and Paul Rudd were still able to make one amazing heist film out of Ant-Man. The movie follows an ex-convict Scott Lang, who actually has a heart of gold, as he is thrown into the subatomic world of being Ant-Man. With the former Ant-Man, Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), training him, Scott will have to pull off a heist that not only could save the world, but also redeem himself to his family, who is the only world he cares about in life. Despite Edgar Wright leaving due to creative differences with Marvel, Ant-Man is one of my favorite superheroes. Paul Rudd is phenomenal as Scott Lang in the movie. Not only does he win the audience with his “Paul Rudd” charm, but he also pulls off serious action scenes when he is only an inch tall. The visuals in this movie is Marvel at their all-time best. With Scott exploring the world, and the secret dangers that lie in everything that we are used to at normal size, at ant size, audiences are finally able to see something completely new than what they are used to. An interesting aspect of the movie was the comedy brought by Scott’s supporting group of friends. Though they aren’t in the comics, they steal every scene they are in, Luis (Michael Pena) tells all of his stories in the most hilarious way, Kurt (David Dastmalchian) is a master computer hacker, and Dave (T.I.) is just there as a backup really. Despite them not being crucial to Ant-Man lore, they are Scott’s team that always has his back through the big and small things in life. In the end, Ant-Man is a success not because it changes the game for the MCU, its a success because it shows audiences that second changes are worth going after, no matter who you are and what happens in life.
